03 Mar EPA AWARDS FIREFLY PHOTONICS SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION RESEARCH GRANT
Firefly Photonics, LLC awarded EPA small business innovation grant entitled “Field Deployable Mid-Infrared Spectrometer for Monitoring Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Emissions from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs)”.
During Phase I of this project, the primary objective will be to develop an uncooled portable gas spectrometer that utilizes a dispersive design with no moving parts. Such a device will have far-reaching impact with a number of environmental monitoring applications including affordability and ease of use for private citizen users, capability to sense multiple contaminants, and capability to quantify the magnitude or intensity of odors.
Since 1983, the EPA SBIR funding has supported research to help solve environmental problems and have assisted small businesses in developing new technologies that promote clean and safe water, improve air quality, land revitalization, homeland security, sustainable materials management, and safer chemicals.
