Firefly Photonics awarded small business innovation grant, “Photonic Crystal Infrared Emitters (PhIRE Phase 2)”
The primary objective of Phase 2 is to improve the light extraction efficiency of large-format mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) superlattice light emitting diode (SLED) arrays for infrared scene projector applications.
Anticipated Benefits/Potential Commercial Applications of the Research or Development:
The proposed research and development effort is intended to greatly advance the start-of-the-art in wallplug efficiency and radiance in mid- and long-wave infrared superlattice light emitting diode technologies for infrared scene projection. In addition, commercial applications such as gas sensing stand to benefit from this effort.
